Carbon is Thicker than Water

From the OEC

Did you know that using water – even cold water – causes significant greenhouse gas emissions? No, turning that handle doesn’t push carbon dioxide into the air, but pumping the water there and creating chemicals to treat it sure do! So, improving water efficiency
helps the climate too.

Hidden Power According to the EPA, “letting your faucet run for five minutes uses about as much energy as letting a 60-watt light bulb run for 14 hours.” Wow!

What You Can Do?

An easy step to take is to install lower-flow shower heads and faucets. Good models aerate the water to provide the same cleaning power and comfort as normal fixtures with half the water.

Other ideas include:
Turning off the faucet.
Update your toilet. Pre-1992 toilets can use 2-4 times as much water as modern toilets.
Finding and fixing leaks.
Washing your car wisely.

For More Information:
You local government may subsidize or give away water efficiency equipment. For example, Ashland, Corvallis, and Portland all give away FREE low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators, as well as other conservation tools.

The EPA has more great tips for water efficiency.
