100kW Intel PV System

Back in November, I reported that Intel was going to install a PV system at their Hillsboro Jones Farm campus. (Link)  Bill MacKenzie from Intel commented on the blog entry. I exchanged email with him and he allowed me to go see the now operational solar panels.  You can see them in the picture above. They are impressive. It is a 100kW array that cost around $800,000 (pre-incentives)  installed by SolarCity. The panels are arranged in groups of 18 or 21 and there are over 25 of these groups on the roof.

Intel is already the largest purchaser of clean energy in the state of Oregon. This PV system is suppose to be the "first step in an aggressive plan to employ solar energy" on Intel sites around the world. It will be interesting to see what happens next and if the economic slow down delays Intel's plans or solar's projected 2009 growth.
